Malik Muhammad Jayasi was the man who got her fame with an unfortunate fate. There are many versions of historians with the story of this beautiful queen but all of them agree on one thing i.e. the extraordinary beauty of the queen. There are two popular versions of this beautiful tale of the beauty of queen, love of Maharana Ratan Singh, the lust of Allauddin Khilji, the valor of Gora Badal. Widely accepted versions are of Malik Muhammad Jayasi(Persian adoption) and Hemratan(Rajput adoption).

A Brahman named Raghav Chetan after being banished from Chittor because of a fraud he did. Raghav went to Delhi and expressed the unmatched beauty of Padmini knowing the fact that King Allauddin possess a weakness for beautiful ladies, in order to take revenge from Maharana Ratan Singh he planned to make Khilji attack on Chittor and unfortunately he was successful in his evil plan. Khilji attacked Chittor but heavily guarded fortress and brave Rajput warriors made him regret his choice. So, he played an evil game by calling himself a “brother” like figure for Padmavati and made a wish to meet his “sister”. Maharana Ratan Singh got convinced by this dirty trick of Khilji and got ready for the meeting but intelligent queen sensed the dirty intentions of Khilji and refused to meet him in private. So, Khilji proposed just to see her in a mirror on this proposal all parties agreed upon. After seeing Padmini in mirror Khilji got more lustful for her and imprisoned Maharana betraying him while he was consorting him back to his tents. Padmini was the ransom demanded for freedom of Maharana, warriors Gora & Badal decided to make Khilji taste his own medicine. 150 palqi(royal carriage for women) were getting ready with armed soldiers inside them instead of women.
This move got success but brave Gora had to make supreme sacrifice. Maharana was in the fortress but in his absence rival Rajput king Devpal of kumbhalner sent a marriage proposal to Padmini ending insulting her badly, Maharana decided to avenge his Queen's insult. In single combat Maharana killed Devpal but wounds from combat lead to the death of Maharana also. Other side Khilji increased his efforts to win over Chittor & Padmini with deleting supplies Rajput warriors performed shaka(fight till death) and Padmini went for Jauhar(committing suicide on the pyre) with 16000 other women. Those brave ladies chose death on the place of dishonor from Muslim invaders. All Khilji got was an empty fortress filled with ashes and glory of those brave ladies.
